What are Talisman’s and Amulet’s? Research by, Nanaura One of the oldest forms of magic has been used throughout history in every culture around the world and is still used today. Some of histories earliest artefacts were talismans; many of them used symbols found in sacred geometry, such as Mandela’s, pentagrams, hexagrams, and spirals. The oldest talismans consisted of symbols scratched into stones, sometimes with a hole cut through it for a cord, allowing the object to be worn as a pendant.Talismans became widely used during medieval times and integrate designs were inscribed on flat metal disc. But the ancient civilizations from around the world also used talismans, perhaps the most known are the ancient Egyptian use of the ankh; the ankh symbolized the extension of life eternal immorality and unconditional love. The ankh was worn by the living but especially the dead, this was to help the soul become immortal and get into the promised lands after their trials.
In ancient Africa, one would carry a foot of an animal of other parts of a swift creature. This was used to help a person be able to flee with the speed of that particular animal. The lucky rabbits foot charm was born from this talisman usage in Africa. Another form that came from ancient Africa was from the Voodoo ceremony usage of Mojo or luck bags, which were created and carried by an individual.
The continent of Europe has also produced its share of talismans or lucky charms. The most common being Excalibur, the sword in the stone, which was of great importance in Arthurian lore, the sword was said to have gave King Arthur magical powers. Another symbol to come from Europe is the four-leaf clover of good luck, this came about when St. Patrick drove the snakes i.e., the devil, from Ireland and adopted the Shamrock as a symbol of the Luck of the Irish.
During the times of the crusade, Nordic countries employed their magical alphabet known today as the runes for protection and foreseeing the future.
In Eastern Europe during the middle ages, legends of the undead or vampires were born, partially due to the number of plaques as well as the Romanian Prince Vlad, who horribly tortured and killed thousands. During this time charms and talismans were created to ward off such creatures of the night. Legend has it that a vampire cannot attack if you hold up a cross, as this symbol is that which represents G-d and has the ability to deflect evil.
Many others have used talismans from the crucifixes used in Catholicism, to the Star of David in the Jewish belief. From the Hindus, the Buddhist, to the Taoist you can find talismans or amulets within all of these cultures throughout the world. Some of the talismans are more widely known from the Ying Yang to the I Ching hexes.
The symbol of the pentagram was perhaps the most used of all the symbols; this is a five-pointed star in cased in a circle. This symbol was possibly the most ever seen on talismans throughout history. This symbol is one of the oldest symbols on the planet and can be traced back to the time of the Sumerians. The Christians have used this symbol, as well as the Middle Eastern cultures to the new age movement of today. This symbol was used, as it is equal to phi. (For more information pertaining to the Pentagram please read the research section)
Solomon the King was possibly the most famous person who ever created talismans; he created the greater seals of Solomon as well as the lesser seals. These seals are sacred and are used by many throughout the world as a means to communicate with the angels and creatures not of this reality. Each seal has its own purpose and meaning and can be used to achieve many different things.
Throughout time many talismans became lucky charms and others became symbols of good and evil, but one thing remains the same, a talismans is an object that has a specific purpose and has been designated to do so.
The difference between an amulet and a talisman mainly has to do with the material there were or are made from. Amulets are objects of nature and are in a natural form. A talisman is a man made object of either natural or non-natural material.
The word amulet comes from the Latin word Amuletum and means a magical object. The amulet was often sometimes made of natural materials, be it a rabbits foot, four-leaf clover, stone or crystal, etc. Angels and Fairies have been known to charge or program the natural objects; this would enhance the objects energy immensely. Amulets were objects that were mostly worn around the neck as a charm against evil or injury. Amulets were designed to ward off negative energies and keep them from affecting you.
The word talisman is believed to have come from the Arabic language. The talisman was an object that was mainly made of metals and clay but could also be made from other materials as well. Talismans are normally made for a specific purpose and were programmed using symbols and energy to achieve the person’s goal. Talismans were designed to attract energies towards or away from you. They would be inscribed with designed and letters corresponding to a predetermined purpose intended. The most common form of a talisman would be a small metal disc worn on a chain as a pendant.
Many people make or purchase these objects for personal power and freedom. Some people can manifest that power on their own while others have placed the same power into inanimate objects. Many people would choose natural materials as these objects contain their own energy and could be used as amplifiers for ones personal power. When an individual comes into their own power, they realize that they alone create the protection, luck, and ward off the negative energies themselves. Once a person moves into their personal power of higher frequency there is no longer a need for physical objects to do their chosen task.
People tend to use talismans today to assist in powerful transformation that they feel they need to be empowered to achieve. This is a just one-use people also still use object for protection, luck, joy, and happiness. |
